Embedding Standards

Embedding ICT/Multimedia Standardisation Initiatives into European Vocational Training Development Strategies

Project Concept

In the context of the European Qualification Framework (EQF), the Embedding Standards project (Agreement number: 2004-146192) aims to promote the establishment of a system that enables the acknowledgement of learning outcomes and qualifications independently of national environments and training/education systems, in order to overcome the "standardisation divide" that prohibits Europe from utilising the maximum of its human resources.

The main objective of the project is to support European Standardisation processes in the ICT and Multimedia sector by linking standardisation initiatives in national and European levels in a systematic context, and to make national Vocational Education and Training systems compatible to each other by developing an integrative model to describe skills, qualifications and competences on a common EU basis, thus improving the quality of vocational training and better utilisation of EU human resources.

Project Results

The main outcomes sought are:
  • To overcome Europe’s standardisation divide with regard to national education and training qualifications.
  • To enhance the mobility and employability of employees in the European Labour market and achieve better exploitation of EU Human Resources.
  • To promote the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
  • To describe job profiles in the ICT/Multimedia VET sector according to skills, competences and knowledge.
  • To embed them in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) fostering in this way, recognition of informal education and training.
  • To pilot the profiles in appropriate training environments by developing the according educational materials.
