Rural Economic and Social Development in Turkish Thrace

Project Concept

The overall objective of the project is to increase the scientific cooperation and interaction of Turkish and EU universities for sustainable rural economic and social development issues.
Specific objectives:
  • To research the EU experience in rural economic and social development especially in Thrace region and to develop a scientific pilot model for rural economic and social development in the EU negotiation process of Turkey.
  • To increase the rural economic and social development capacity of mountain villages in Turkey with a pilot model in Thrace,
  • To increase the cooperation between universities from EU in development issues and implementation of rural economic and social development policies in local level,
  • To provide an innovative, scientific and cooperative approach to the rural economic and social development process of mountain villages with support of EU member states universities,
  • To increase the cooperation between local and regional institutions in Thrace.

Project Results

  • Rural economic and social development capacity of local authorities, NGOs and regional institutions will increase.
  • There will be an increasing scientific cooperation between universities in the area of rural economic and social development
  • New rural economic and social development strategies based on innovative scientific research activities will be developed in Turkey due to EU legislations.
  • The socio - economic conditions of mountain villages will be analyzed by social scientists in the area of rural development with the participation of scientists from both countries.
  • The capacity of Turkey to implement EU legislation in the area of rural development will be increased.
  • Exchange of knowledge and best practices on planning and implementation of EU policies will be encouraged.
  • The social and economic conditions of mountain villages will be improved.
