Congratulations to Yannis Spyridis, who had his viva on Wednesday, 20 December and was awarded the PhD subject to minor revisions. Congratulations also to Yannis’s supervisors, Dr Thomas Lagkas, Dr Panagiotis Sarigiannidis, Prof Jie Zhang and Prof George Eleftherakis, for their great work and support.
Yannis directed his research towards advancing autonomous drone control through the development of efficient cooperative control algorithms. These algorithms were specifically designed for IoT applications, focusing on tasks such as route planning for data collection in remote environments, and search and rescue operations. Throughout his research, he utilised a combination of structured methods, deep learning, and deep reinforcement learning techniques to enhance the decision-making capabilities of drone agents. By integrating these approaches, his thesis contributes to the optimisation of autonomous drone systems within the IoT domain, ensuring their adaptability and effectiveness in diverse and challenging scenarios.
