Professor Henry Etzkowitz is a scholar of international reputation in innovation studies as an originator of the 'Entrepreneurial University' and 'Triple Helix' concepts. Professor Etzkowitz did post-doctoral work following Robert. K. Merton, founder of Sociology of science at Sociology of Science, Columbia University, 1983-1985. He obtained a Sociology Ph.D. from New School for Social Research in 1969, and graduated from University of Chicago, History B.A. Professor Etzkowitz is the founder and CEO of the International Triple Helix Institute (ITHI, 2013-, http://www.triplehelix.net ). He has an extensive record of research and publication based on Silicon Valley and Boston area and is co-founder of the Silicon Valley Innovation Forum. As he is pioneering research on the triple helix model of university, industry and government worldwide and many scholars and young people would like to come to the Silicon Valley to find out the secret, one of the ITHI’s missions is to host them to get opportunities together.
Professor Etzkowitz is a key founder of global Triple helix Association (THA, 2010-, http://www.triplehelixassociation.org ) and the first and present president. As the triple helix involves the understanding of different industry, university and government contexts and cultures that exist in different nations and regions, he is exploring the international comparison of the triple helix model, as well as the global wave of the entrepreneurial university. As President of the Triple Helix Association and Editor of its Journal (ww.triplehelixassociation.org), he is at the centre of a unique international network to link scholars and practitioners of university-industry-government relations.
Professor Etzkowitz is Visiting Professor at Edinburgh University Business School and Birkbeck of the University of London (since 2010) and Stony Brooke University in the USA, Member of the Executive Education Faculty of Kennedy School at Harvard University (2009-), and Chief Expert of Shandong Academy of Science in China (May 2014 -).
Professor Etzkowitz authored Triple Helix: University, Industry Government Innovation in Action (Routledge, 2008), translated into Swedish (2005), Chinese (2005), Portuguese (2009), Japanese (2010), Russian (2010), etc; MIT and the Rise of Entrepreneurial Science (Routledge, 2002) and co-authored Athena Unbound: The Advancement of Women in Science and Technology (Cambridge University Press, 2000), Public Venture Capital (Harcourt, 2000) and Ghetto Crisis (Little,Brown, 1969). Other key publications include over 100 important papers and 15 books.
