Mr Papamalis Fivos (PhD Candidate at SEERC) Head of the Social Empowerment Network contributed in the development of the National Drug Strategy 2014 -20 and Action Plan 2014-16 of Greece
As member of the National Drug Strategy Team, Mr Papamalis participated on the development of the Greek National Drug Strategy 2014 -2020 and its accompanying Action Plan. Mr Papamalis, edited and drafted the National Drug Strategy and Action Plan on Drugs and provided scientific consultation on issues related to National Drug Policy on demand and supply reduction strategies. In this regard, he participated on the discussions and negotiations among diverse stakeholders and policy makers of the supply and demand reduction national committees, and reached consensus on the joint development of the National Action Plan on Drug 2014-2016.
Furthermore, as part of his duties in this post he:
- Supported the development of consultative mechanisms and policy development processes for the national drug priority areas involving policy analysis and recommendations
- Guided the development of inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms and proposed best practice model of care across Greek addiction health system, focusing on contemporary drug policies, early intervention and intelligent let prevention strategies, continuum of care, social reintegration supportive mechanisms
- Provided scientific consultation on issues related to National Drug Policy and on demand and supply reduction strategies
- Researched and drafted policy recommendations for NGO involvement on the National Drug Strategy and Action Plan which was subsequently put into practice by granted permission to NGOs to be involved in a participatory manner, resulting in receiving valuable feedback and grassroots knowledge.
- Developed draft guidelines and protocols to improve the structures supporting clinical governance and minimum quality standards on demand reduction interventions tailored by the current state of scientific evidence
