Social Network Analysis Training Workshop.

Social Network Analysis Training Workshop.
Added on 05/11/2012

Social Network Analysis (SNA) is both a theory and an analytical technique for the study of social structures. Human relations and their positions in a particular network are the key issue. The particularity of this method is the non-inferential quantitative treatment of qualitative data. This workshop introduces the core ideas to apply SNA in research. First, an introduction about its origins and uses along research will be given to place the audience in context. Second, the general concepts will be explained: whole networks and social-personal networks (or ego-centered). Third, the basic metrics: what can we measure? How can we treat data? What kind of results can we get? Fourth, a brief explanation of the procedure to design a social-personal survey; the questions we should ask and the mistakes we should avoid. Fifth, some examples of these will be given, concerning the measure of power, human and social capital. Finally, two practical exercises will be conducted to apprehend the concepts.
