The English in Europe project aims to examine the role of English in different contexts of today’s Europe by hosting five conferences in different parts of Europe (Sheffield, Zaragoza, Copenhagen, Thessaloniki and Prague). SEERC is proud to be the lead organizer of the third conference in Thessaloniki on 22-24 November, 2013.
The aim of the third conference in the ‘English in Europe’ series is to gain a comparative understanding of the debates surrounding the role of English as a lingua franca in the South-East Europe and Balkan region and to explore in what ways ELF functions and is visible within these geographical locations. A call for papers will be sent out shortly which invites participants who are located both within the Balkan region and in other countries who are involved in research on ELF in South East Europe for a series of parallel sessions.
We are extremely proud to confirm that the following keynote speakers will be speaking at the conference:
Professor Cem Alptekin (Boğaziçi University)
Professor Barbara Seidlhofer (University of Vienna)
Dr Nicos Sifakis (Hellenic Open University)
